Hey everyone, Happy New Year! I hope you had a great time and got some well-needed rest.
January often comes with new goals and resolutions, and one interesting challenge is Veganuary, a 31-day commitment to avoiding animal products. Started in 2014, it not only offers personal benefits like lower blood pressure and weight loss but also the benefits to the environment and animal welfare ae undeniable.
I didn't go vegan in January, but here are some tips that helped me transition:
1. Meal Prep:
Planning meals in advance and doing weekly meal prep on Sundays made a huge difference. Breaking down ingredients into categories like fibre, proteins, and carbs helped ensure balanced meals.
2. Explore New Recipes/Ingredients:
Expand your culinary horizons by trying out new recipes and ingredients. Don't focus on what you can't have; instead, experiment and discover a variety of plant-based options. Before adopting a vegan lifestyle, I had limited myself to one type of lentil and one recipe. Since then, I've explored various lentil varieties and recipes, applying the same approach to beans and beyond.
3. Get your snacking sorted before the cravings kick in:
Veganuary has shown us the power of plant-based eating, and healthy snacking is a key component of sustained well-being. By choosing nutritious and delicious options between meals, we can maintain energy levels, support our health goals, and avoid unhealthy cravings. Let's explore some tasty and fulfilling vegan snack ideas here!
4. Get Support:
Having a buddy during the transition, like my husband, made it easier. Share your decision with friends and family for support. You can also find a community online – I made great friends and got fantastic support.
