Apple and carob syrup tart

Quick, delicious and rustic apple pie with Cypriot carob syrup!

Vegan, nut free | Serves 8 | DESSERT

Ingredients:

  • 4 apples
  • Juice of half lemon
  • 3 tablespoons carob syrup
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • Pinch of salt
  • Ready rolled puff pastry (375g)
  • 1 tablespoon brown demerara sugar
  • 1 tablespoon icing sugar

Steps:

1.Peel the apples and slice them and add the lemon juice on top.

2.In a bowl, combine the carob syrup, cinnamon and salt.

3.Preheat your oven to 180°C and line a baking tray (39x27cm) with some parchment paper.

4.Add the pastry on your baking tray (make sure to remove the pastry from the fridge only when you are ready to use it!), spread the carob syrup on a single layer, leaving a 2cm edge in all sides.

5.Arrange the apples slices and sprinkle the brown sugar on top.

6.Bake for 20-25 minutes, until golden.

7.Let it cool down before you sprinkle some icing sugar on top.
